Staying on an Apple Farm in Korea (apple picking AirBnb!)

At the very end of August, Kurt and I traveled to Bonghwa to stay on an apple farm for the weekend! The guesthouse is called Apple Tree and you can check them out on Instagram here and Airbnb here!

We took a bus from Dong Seoul to Chunyang Bus Terminal and then taxied to the orchard.

The apple picking experience costs $20 per apple barrel which holds up to 7kg of apples! The experience is only from mid-August until the end of October.

The family that owns the orchard built a separate house on their property just for guests. The house has an open floor plan but comes with a fully stocked kitchen (though it took us the whole weekend to find the olive oil lol), an outdoor patio complete with a BBQ and fairy lights, and a bed framed by two huge windows looking out into the orchard.

We only met the woman who owns the house along with her young son but they were the absolute sweetest! The owner made us breakfast every morning that was usually some egg dish, sausages, and of course, apples.

In mid-August the apples we got to pick were called Aori apples which were amazing. They might look similar to granny smith, but they weren’t sour at all - they tasted like candy :) The apples are an odd variety that is best when they are fully green and when they slowly turn red, they lose all their flavor. They are best served cold so throw them in the fridge for a bit and enjoy! They lasted a few weeks after we picked them (and might have been good longer than that, but we ate them all by that point!)

We didn’t have a car so we only look long walks around the property, but if you are able to drive, the area has so many cute cafes, a botanical garden, and plenty of restaurants that the owner will show you - she sent us a great list!

I can’t recommend this place enough! We booked our spot in April for a mid-August trip, so definitely plan ahead. I believe she only opens the bookings on AirBnb in spring so you can’t book for next year yet but set a reminder :)
